Come join us for a very special evening in a recital concert by world-renowned clarinetist, David Shifrin. Halekalani Kula is honored to host this incredible talent whose career includes holding the principal positions in The Cleveland Orchestra and The American Symphony, chamber music collaborations with the Guarneri, Tokyo, and Emerson quartets, and the Chamber Music Society at Lincoln Center. He is currently the artistic director of Yale University’s Chamber Music Society and Chamber Music Northwest in Portland, Oregon. Cary Lewis, an acclaimed chamber music pianist, will be joining David in a delightful program featuring the music of Francis Poulenc, Johannes Brahms, Chopin/Forrest, Béla Kovács, Verdi/Luigi Bassi, and Felix Mendelssohn.

Welcoming delights will be offered prior to the performance. Then sit and enjoy the intimacy of Halekalani Kula in a program of virtuosic masterpieces after which we will mingle with fellow guests and the artists over food and wine fit for the occasion.

Thursday, January 4, 2018, at 6:30 p.m.

Come ring in the New Year and say goodbye to the Halekalani Kula venue before it closes for remodeling and expansion. To celebrate, a magnificent program of chamber music has been arranged by returning artists and friends.

Sarah Kwak, concertmaster of the Oregon Symphony returns along with Cary Lewis, chamber music pianist of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. They will be joined by Vali Phillips, violinist with the Oregon Symphony, who will be playing viola for this performance, and Joseph Johnson, the principal cellist of the Toronto Symphony and Santa Fe Opera Orchestra.

The evening will begin with special greeting treats followed by the performance featuring music of Turina, Kodály, and Brahms. Afterwards, enjoy each other’s company and mingle with the artists while savoring food and wine fit for the occasion.
